THE FAITH OF REMEMBRANCE

The Open Black tradition, or in Sikka language Lega Mitang, is a traditional event carried out in remembrance of departed family members. If a family member, for example, a child dies and the mother wears black clothes. It could be 40 days, 100 days, 1 year or 2 years depending on how long the mother still remembers the sadness of leaving by her child. When the time is over a traditional Open Black ceremony is held at the child's grave in the morning with prayers led by the elders family. After that the mother takes off her black clothes and the next day she is free to wear colored clothes as usual.
